Make practice manageable
Start with the eating guidance supplied for your denture. Softer foods cut into small pieces can make practice easier, and chewing on both sides can help distribute pressure. Speak slowly and practise aloud with words that feel awkward. Some people notice extra saliva or a bulky sensation initially. NHS denture guidance
Choose a calm time to practise inserting and removing the appliance using the method demonstrated. If handling it is difficult because of eyesight, grip, or hand movement, say so at your review. You may need a more practical demonstration or help adapting the routine.
Keep a brief note of specific problems: the food that is difficult, the word that catches, or the location that rubs. “The lower right area rubs when I chew” gives the clinician more to work with than “I cannot get used to it.”
Build cleaning and rest into the day
Remove and clean the denture according to the instructions for its material. Use an appropriate denture cleanser rather than abrasive products, rinse it thoroughly before placing it back in your mouth, and clean your gums, tongue, and any remaining teeth. Dentures are generally removed overnight, but immediate dentures fitted around extraction treatment may have different initial instructions. Seek adjustment instead of modifying the denture
Contact the dental team if soreness persists, the denture repeatedly slips, or eating remains difficult. Do not file the base, bend parts, or use household glue. Ask for advice before relying on increasing amounts of adhesive to manage a changing fit. If you have swelling, fever, a sore that does not heal, or difficulty maintaining food and fluid intake, seek prompt assessment rather than assuming it is routine adjustment.

How soon should a denture feel completely natural? There is no universal deadline. Describe progress and problems to your treating team rather than judging yourself against an online timetable.
