Teeth Cleaning in Scarborough

A thorough clean that reaches what daily brushing and flossing can't, at a pace that works for you.

Professional teeth cleaning removes the plaque and tartar buildup that a toothbrush leaves behind, especially along the gumline and between teeth. At Cedarbrae Dental Center, our hygienists take the time to explain what they're doing and adjust for patients who deal with sensitivity.

Open 7 days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays.

What happens during a cleaning

  1. A quick check-in

Your hygienist reviews any changes since your last visit, including sensitivity, bleeding gums, or areas that feel different, so the cleaning can be adjusted if needed.

  2. Scaling

Using hand instruments and, when needed, a gentle ultrasonic scaler, we remove plaque and tartar from the tooth surfaces and along the gumline, where a toothbrush can't reach as effectively.

  3. Polishing

A polishing paste smooths the tooth surface and lifts surface staining from coffee, tea, or other everyday foods, leaving teeth feeling noticeably smoother.

  4. Flossing and rinse

We floss between every tooth to clear anything left behind, then finish with a rinse.

  5. A quick recap

Your hygienist points out any spots that need extra attention at home and lets the dentist know if anything should be looked at more closely.

Cleaning visits for different needs

Cleanings aren't one-size-fits-all. We adjust the approach for:

  • Patients with sensitive teeth or tender gums, using gentler pressure and pacing
  • Anyone who hasn't had a cleaning in years and needs a more gradual first visit
  • Patients with gum disease who need a deeper cleaning rather than a routine one
  • Children, with shorter visits and simpler explanations
  • Patients with dental anxiety, who can ask us to pause or slow down at any point
  • Anyone with braces, bridges, or implants that need specific cleaning technique

What regular cleanings do for you

Benefits

  • Removes hardened tartar that brushing alone cannot remove
  • Lowers your risk of cavities and gum disease over time
  • Freshens breath by clearing bacteria that build up along the gumline
  • Gives your hygienist a close look at areas that may need the dentist's attention

Honest limits

  • A routine cleaning is not a treatment for existing gum disease, which needs a deeper cleaning instead
  • Cleaning removes buildup but doesn't reverse enamel damage that's already occurred

What teeth cleaning costs

A routine cleaning is one of the more predictable costs in dentistry, though it still depends on a few factors.

  • Whether you need a routine cleaning or a deeper cleaning for gum disease
  • How much buildup has accumulated since your last visit
  • Your dental insurance coverage or CDCP eligibility

We'll confirm your exact cost before your cleaning begins, and provide a written quote if any additional treatment is recommended.
