Dental Exams & Checkups in Scarborough
A thorough look at your teeth, gums, and bite, so small issues stay small.
A dental exam is more than a quick look in your mouth. At Cedarbrae Dental Center, our checkups cover your teeth, gums, bite, and soft tissue, so we can catch changes early and keep your care plan honest and up to date.
Open 7 days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays.

Why checkups matter more than they seem to
Most dental problems don't announce themselves early. A small cavity, the first signs of gum disease, or a crack starting in a back tooth can all develop quietly, without pain, for months. Regular exams are how we catch these changes while they're still simple to treat, rather than waiting until a toothache forces the issue.
A checkup also gives us a record over time. When we see the same patient every six months or so, we can compare notes visit to visit and notice small shifts — a gumline receding slightly, a filling starting to wear — long before they become something you'd feel.
What we actually check
Health history review
We start by updating your medical and dental history, including any new medications or health changes, since these can affect your mouth and treatment choices.
Visual and hands-on exam
We look closely at every tooth surface and examine your gums, checking for decay, wear, cracks, and early signs of gum disease.
X-rays when they're due
Imaging shows what we can't see directly, like decay between teeth or below the gumline, and we only take X-rays on the schedule your case actually needs.
Gum measurements
We measure the depth around your teeth to track gum health and catch gum disease at its earliest, most manageable stage.
Oral cancer screening and bite check
Every exam includes a quick screening of your mouth, tongue, and neck, plus a check of how your teeth and jaw come together.

Request AppointmentWhat regular exams do and don't do
Benefits
- Catch cavities and gum issues while they're small and simpler to treat
- Build a history that helps us notice gradual changes over time
- Keep X-rays and screenings on a sensible, individualized schedule
- Give you a clear, current picture of your oral health at every visit
Honest limits
- An exam identifies issues but doesn't treat them on the spot; some findings need a follow-up appointment
- Checkup frequency is a guideline, not a guarantee — a new symptom between visits still deserves a call
Insurance, CDCP, and checkups
Many dental insurance plans cover a set number of exams and X-rays each year, often on a schedule of every six or nine months. We can check your plan details and let you know what a checkup is likely to involve for you.
If you're eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, exams and preventive care are commonly part of what's covered, though the specifics depend on your eligibility band. Our front desk can help you understand what applies before your visit, without promising a coverage outcome we can't guarantee.
