Fixed Tooth Replacement
Dental Bridges in Scarborough
A fixed replacement for one or more missing teeth that doesn't come out of your mouth.
A dental bridge fills the gap left by a missing tooth using the neighbouring teeth for support, cemented permanently in place. At Cedarbrae Dental Center, we'll walk you through whether a bridge or an implant makes more sense for your situation, honestly.
Open 7 days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays.

Is a bridge a good option for you?
A dental bridge tends to be a strong fit when:
- The teeth next to the gap are already strong enough to support crowns
- You'd prefer a fixed solution over a removable one
- You want a faster timeline than the several months implants typically require
- The teeth on either side of the gap already have large fillings or crowns and could use additional support anyway
- Bone loss in the area makes an implant more involved or requires grafting first
Bridge versus implant: an honest comparison
Benefits
- A bridge is typically completed faster, often in a couple of visits over a few weeks
- No surgery is required, which appeals to some patients
- It doesn't rely on jawbone quality the way an implant does
- It restores chewing function and prevents neighbouring teeth from shifting into the gap
Honest limits
- The supporting teeth need to be shaped down to hold crowns, which permanently alters healthy structure
- A bridge doesn't stimulate the jawbone underneath the gap the way an implant does, so some bone loss can continue
- If a supporting tooth develops a problem later, it can affect the whole bridge
- An implant, by comparison, stands on its own without involving neighbouring teeth, though it takes longer and involves a surgical step

Exam and planning
Your dentist checks the health of the teeth on either side of the gap and the surrounding gum, and explains clearly whether a bridge is a good fit compared with other options like an implant.
Preparing the supporting teeth
The teeth that will hold the bridge are numbed and gently reshaped to make room for the crowns, and a detailed impression or digital scan captures their exact shape for the lab.
A temporary bridge in the meantime
While the final bridge is custom-made in a dental lab, usually over a few weeks, you wear a temporary bridge to protect the prepared teeth and keep your bite and appearance normal.
Fitting the final bridge
Once the finished bridge returns from the lab, your dentist checks the fit, colour, and bite carefully, making small adjustments as needed before cementing it permanently in place.
What the bridge itself is made of
A traditional bridge consists of a false tooth, called a pontic, fused between two crowns that fit over the prepared teeth on either side of the gap. The whole piece is custom-made to match the shape and shade of your natural teeth, then cemented into place so it functions like your original teeth when eating and speaking.
For patients missing a single tooth with strong teeth on both sides, or several teeth with the right support, a bridge offers a well-established, fixed way to close the gap without the wait time that comes with implant healing.
What a dental bridge costs
Bridge cost depends mainly on how many teeth are being replaced and the material used for the crowns and pontic.
- The number of missing teeth the bridge needs to span
- The material selected for the crowns and false tooth
- Whether the supporting teeth need any additional treatment before the bridge is placed
- Your dental insurance coverage or CDCP eligibility
We give you an exact written quote after your exam, and we'll also walk you through implant pricing side by side if you'd like to compare.
